Human Resources Development
BSAJ is an organization consisting of active/graduated boarding school students. Therefore, individual opinions and activities have a great influence on the organization. At BSAJ, you can experience the process of taking the initiative in the process while acquiring skills such as planning composition, sales, team development, and media support in a practical format. BSAJ members who have not only overseas experience but also such experience will be the next generation leaders who can be used at home and abroad.
Application Preparation
In addition to providing information about boarding schools, students who have actually taken the exam will be the point of contact for exam preparation and consultation.
For example, we support a wide range of admission processes, from helping you write essays that are essential for boarding school exams to giving advice on what kind of school is right for you.
History and future of BSAJ
2016-present

BSAJ founded
2016
BSAJ was founded in 2016 by then-current students at Brown University who had graduated from American boarding schools, with the mission of promoting U.S. boarding schools to Japanese students as one of the options for student life.
While the organization initially focused solely on the United States, since 2022 it has expanded to include members from boarding schools around the world, including Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
BSAJ is also planning to welcome current boarding school students from across the globe as members in the near future.

HAWKNESS TABLE WORKSHOP
2016-2017
In 2016 and 2017, we held a mock lesson of harkness lessons (a form of lessons in which teachers and students sit at one round table and face each other in a discussion format), which is one of the characteristics of boarding schools.
During that time, we also assigned a person in charge of accepting questions from parents.

MAGAZINE CONTRIBUTION
2016-2018
BSAJ contributed a bi-monthly column titled “Ask the Graduates! Boarding School Special Feature” to Y-Sapix Journal, an informational magazine published by Y-Sapix.
In this column, survey responses from boarding school alumni, including individuals connected to BSAJ through past events or support in planning and operations, were collected and compiled into written summaries on a range of topics.
The themes included “Pathways to Boarding School” and “The Boarding School Application Process.”

Summer session
2018
We held a summer session for boarding school students at Tokyo Academics.

LAUNCHING WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA
2018
We established social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, along with this website to help more people learn about BSAJ. In 2020, we redesigned the site and began publishing blog content, such as exam experience reflections.

TEMPORARY: GENERAL INCORPORATED ASSOCIATION
March 2019
BSAJ has primarily operated as a voluntary organization; however, due to limitations in the scale of its activities, it was temporarily incorporated as a general incorporated association.
Ultimately, due to changes in membership, BSAJ returned to its structure as a student-led voluntary group. Regardless of this transition, BSAJ’s mission remains unchanged since its founding: to expand awareness of boarding schools as an educational option.

MERGED WITH JABSA
April 3, 2022
Although BSAJ and JABSA previously operated separately due to slight differences in policy, both organizations ultimately shared the same goals. During a period of renewal for both groups, we decided to merge on April 3, 2022.
The unified organization continues under the name “BSAJ,” and existing platforms such as the website and Instagram have remained in use. With membership more than doubling after the merger, BSAJ has been able to expand the scope of its activities moving forward.

BSAJ ONE-TO-ONE PROGRAMS (ONTOP)
June 2022-present
BSAJ One-to-One Programs (OnTOP) was established in response to the organization reaching its largest membership to date, as well as an increase in inquiries about boarding school scholarships influenced by broader social conditions.
OnTOP consists of two components: the One-to-One Student Mentor Program and the One-to-One Finance Consulting Program.
For more details, please visit the OnTOP page from the menu bar.

LECTURE AT ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOLS
2022-present
To begin by raising awareness of boarding schools as an educational option, BSAJ plans to provide information through lectures at elementary and junior high schools across the country.

BSAJ Active Student X Graduation Exchange Meeting
2022-present
In addition to the traditional post-fair dinner, BSAJ plans to host events, primarily during long school breaks, that connect current members with alumni. These gatherings are intended to create opportunities for alumni to learn about the current state of boarding schools, while current members can receive advice on topics such as applications and career paths.

BSAJ Scholarship System
2023-present
We are planning to introduce a scholarship system so that as many Japanese students as possible can experience the wonderful experience of boarding school.
